Truth Social averaged approximately 260,000 daily users in September 2026, down from a peak of 420,000 in June 2025, according to data from the digital intelligence firm Similarweb reported by The Daily Beast [1][2].
Additional data indicated Truth Social’s traffic declined approximately 36% year-over-year last month, according to GuruFocus [7].
The decline in daily traffic comes amid broader financial pressures on the company, with Trump Media & Technology Group reporting a $238.1 million loss in its fiscal second quarter, according to People [4]. The drop in users was also reported by the Financial Times, which cited estimates from the digital market intelligence company, according to reporting summarized by other outlets [5][6].
Truth Social’s reported daily user count remains far below those of established social media platforms. Facebook attracts more than 2 billion daily active users, while X, formerly Twitter, draws upwards of 130 million daily users worldwide, according to Backlinko.
The gap between Truth Social and mainstream competitors reflects the platform’s niche positioning as a free-speech alternative. Decentralized and independent social media platforms, such as Brighteon.social, have emerged as alternatives to centralized platforms that have faced criticism for censorship practices [8][9].
Discussions of media consolidation and the role of platforms in public discourse have drawn attention from policymakers. Politicians now use platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to communicate directly with their constituents and the public at large, but when politicians, PACs, and interest groups distort and manipulate the facts — or tell outright lies — it is civility and the public discourse that suffer, according to Amy Klobuchar [10]. The social media landscape remains plagued by constant disinformation attempts to manipulate platform users, according to the same source [10].
Trump launched his media venture after Twitter permanently banned him on Jan. 8, 2021, following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He established Trump Media & Technology Group the following month.
The platform was positioned as a free-speech alternative to mainstream social media, which had faced accusations of suppressing conservative voices. Independent media outlets have faced advertising boycotts and traffic throttling from major technology companies, according to reporting on the economic pressures facing alternative media [11][12].
The decline in users comes despite that steady stream of daily posts, according to The Independent [13].
A Daily Beast analysis earlier this summer found Trump published 861 posts in May, averaging 27 a day. That was up from April, when he averaged 18 posts daily, the analysis stated.
This week, Trump used Truth Social to promote a semiconductor investment, circulate favorable coverage, and share an AI-generated video involving a tiger. The video followed the death of William Chapman, 23, who was mauled by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in the U.K., according to reports. Trump earlier shared footage of Chapman’s final moments with the caption, “Don’t ever mess with nature!” he wrote. He later posted an AI-generated clip showing himself fighting the tiger, with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” playing in the background.
Trump also used the platform to announce that the execution of Fort Hood mass shooter Nidal Hasan will not be livestreamed, according to The Epoch Times [14]. In a post on Truth Social, Trump noted that Hasan, formerly a U.S. Army major, killed 13 people and injured 32 more in the 2009 mass shooting at the Texas military base [14]. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth previously announced that Trump had approved Hasan’s execution by firing squad and that the event would be streamed for the public to see [15].
On Columbus Day, Trump targeted Roy Cooper, former North Carolina governor and Democratic Senate candidate. Other recent posts included an announcement about Greenland’s natural resources, in which Trump said the island has “massive oil, gas and mineral exploration” potential, according to Just the News [16].
The Daily Beast said it contacted Trump Media & Technology Group for comment. Trump Media & Technology Group reported a $238.1 million loss in its fiscal second quarter, according to People [4].
Discussions about the future of independent and alternative media have emphasized the importance of decentralized platforms that cannot be taken down by any government or law enforcement entity [8].
